How to Get a Perfect Flawless Complexion

Here's my top tips on how to get a flawless base that lasts all day.

1. Start with hydrated skin
Be sure to cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate your skin so it has a nice smooth, clean and hydrated base to start. I like to use Lush 'Ultrabland Facial Cleanser', Elemis 'FreshSkin Skin Glow Exfoliating Face Wash' and Garnier 'Moisture Match'.

2. Know your skin type
Seek out formulas that will compliment your skin type. Oil-free formulas are best for acne-prone or oily skin and hydrating formulas are best for normal to dry skin. Those with sensitive skin should look for hypoallergenic formulas. I like to use MAC 'Studio Fix Fluid' which is for normal to combination skin types.

3. Pick the right shade
When looking for a new foundation, don't try to find the colour by testing it on the back of your hand. Swipe the shade you think matches , along with the next lightest and darkest, on your jawline. Make sure you look at the shades in natural light. The shade that disappears is the shade for you!

4. Change with the seasons
Your skin tone gets lighter and darker from season to season and can sometimes change with age. Upgrade your foundation colour regularly so it never looks too light or dark.

5. Prime for a perfect complexion
If you have scars or marks, use primer to smooth out your complexion. Primer's are also great at minimising pores and coloured primers help cover up redness, dullness and dark circles. A green based primer can counteract redness in the face, a pinky peach shade can counteract dark circles and a purple shade can help turn dull skin into brighter healthier looking skin. Personally I like to use a clear primer from Maybelline called 'Baby Skin', it creates a smooth base and minimises pores.
6. Apply Concealer
You can use less foundation by adding concealer where needed and blending it well. I like to use the Collection 'Lasting Perfection Concealer' to cover up my dark circles and any redness around my nose and chin.

7. Add foundation
Drop foundation onto the back of your hand or onto a make-up palette. Using the tip of a foundation brush (I like to use the Sigma 'F80 Flat Kabuki Brush') lightly pat the foundation onto your skin. Work your way round your face and all down your neck - we don't want any foundation lines! Also be sure to include your ears as this is another tell tale sign. Then blend and buff your way to perfection!

8. Do a Kim Kardashian - Contouring
Adding a slightly darker powder were you wish to create shadows can help define your face. Using a smaller angled brush (I like to use the Real Techniques 'Blush Brush' and Zoeva '109 Face Paint Brush'), sweep the powder along the hairline, across the temples, around the curve of your cheekbones and underneath the jawline in the shape of a number 3.

9. Lights, Camera, Action
Highlighter adds instant soft lighting where you need it most. Apply a small swipe down the centre of your nose, at the tops of your cheekbones and along the top of the brow bone for an instant lift. I use MAC 'Cream Base in Pearl' to add a touch of light to my face.

10. Just like a Rose
And to finish off your perfect base add some blusher to your cheeks, but don't add to the apples of your cheeks as this will take away the effort you put in contouring to define your face. My placing blush on your cheeks you could make your face seem more rounded. My blush of choice is MAC 'Blush in Peaches'.

So there's my tips on how to achieve that perfect flawless complexion.

Muchos love,

Leanne
